Dating Double Standards

There are a lot of double standards between men and women. Women are allowed to do this while men aren’t. One can never be sure if they are committing a dating faux pas. What about sex? Even in 2026 in our more sexually free society there still are certain double standards that create certain rules for men versus women. That uneven pressure leaves a lot of people guessing about what is acceptable.

Sexual Experience

For instance, most guys want their girl to be less sexually experienced than them. She does not have to be a virgin but he definitely does not want her number of partners to be greater than his. I have yet to meet a guy that it would not bother even a little. Women tend to be more lenient on the topic. We are conditioned to believe that our man is going to be more sexually experienced than we are. Some men claim it is about preference, but a lot of it is really about pride.

Talking About Past

Some would say that it is better to not even discuss past relationships and experiences with your present partner. While others would argue that in the age of HIV nothing in regards to sex should be off limits. That creates another layer of tension, because honest conversation can build trust but it can also open the door to judgment. The conversation is never just about numbers; it is also about ego, comfort, and honesty. For some couples, silence feels safer than truth

Open For Discussion

Up For Discussion: Does it matter if you are more experienced than your partner? For the guys, does it matter if you’re girl has more sexual partners than you? Is it even a good idea to discuss it with your partner? Some couples can handle the truth, while others would rather leave the past in the past. The real issue is whether disclosure helps the relationship or simply creates unnecessary doubt. In the end, every couple has to decide what they can live with and what they cannot.
